Epi Kardia

Epi Kardia came about when like-minded home school moms brainstormed “the ideal curriculum,” longing for quality material that embodied a Biblical worldview with an emphasis on academics and higher level thinking.

The Greek words “Epi Kardia” (E – pee   Kar – De – ah) mean at the heart. At Epi Kardia, we feel the heart of home education is the Christ-centered mentoring and discipling relationship between parents and their children, and that perspective is woven through our writings and curricula. We offer Charlotte Mason style, literature-based curricula organized by chronological history and integrating the subjects of history, science, language arts, fine arts and projects – for Kindergarten through High School.

Our suggested methodology especially recommended for younger students, applies the study of history from Creation to Modern each year. Beginning again every year allows students to:

  • move to fresh material more  quickly
  • stay more engaged
  • recall information learned more easily, as it hasn’t been years since it was introduced
  • allows a layering effect to take place, making it easier to connect new knowledge to already-learned information, which according to experts, is the way we learn

The flow of history and connections between historical events become clear as history is studied in this relevant manner.  For older students reading longer books, we recommend a two year schedule, although Epi Kardia is flexible enough to accommodate learning at any pace that the teacher desires.

Reading exciting, well-written literature about characters to whom they can relate and emulate draws students into history in a way that textbooks cannot!

We also write a weekly (during the traditional school year) blog supporting the homeschooling community by offering tips on Christian parenting and homeschooling at all levels, free lesson plans, book reviews, discount coupons, and much more!

What others are saying about Epi Kardia Curricula:
In my humble opinion, Epi Kardia compares nicely with other, more known curriculum such as Sonlight, My Father’s World, or Tapestry of Grace. Of course, each of these curriculum offer their own perspective, features and lesson plans, which makes each one unique and tailored to each families personal needs. However, I think the Sullivan family has joyfully found our core curricula of choice!

I really love the primary & intermediate programs. The books are a joy to read and share with my children and the science and art are so gracefully woven into the time periods we are studying. It has worked for the long term for our family. Very flexible and does not require a lot of prep work on my behalf. Older ones move easily towards independent studies. The greatest part of Epi Kardia is the wonderful collection of whole book titles for the different time periods and the way the arts and science are already woven together for me to use. An added benefit is the love of learning this curriculum has helped instill in my children. They are NEVER bored with this program. I would recommend this curriculum and have done so many times. What a pleasure to share a product that you really believe in and have used for many years.

I’ve been following the layout for history from your lesson plans and loving it! We’re finishing up week 2 of Revolution and having a great time. Your choice of books has been simply amazing! I was just telling the kids this week that we really need to buy these book choices for our library (we have an awesome public library system and so we can borrow most books). They are learning so much and all of this has worked very well with our notebooking. I think what you have put together with Epi Kardia is truly remarkable.

Doing history from Creation to Modern times [has given my daughter] a wonderful understanding of history — thanks to Epi Kardia!

Greetings from Alaska! I’m still sharing the best curriculum ever with all the homeschool moms I meet. Thank you for creating such a fantastic, REAL, usable, family-centered, multi-aged, awesome curriculum! How’s that?? All true, spoken from experience and from the heart!

[The first grade lesson plans] were awesome!!!!!! So much better that doing Charlotte Mason on my own and we tried Sonlight and it doesn’t compare. It has been put together so much better than anything else I have looked at. The books are great, the schedule is easy to follow. If I were to write a curriculum (as if I had the time) this would be it, but this is so much better that what I would have put together. [And] my daughter loves it to!!!
